Climbing in Pakistan
If you have made it up till here, you must already be aware of the endless opportunities Pakistan offers to both aspiring as well as professional climbers.
As a starter, peaks below 6500m do not require a climbing permit and are considered as trekking peaks. Not to mention, this category also offers a huge stockpile of technical and nontechnical peaks including rock and mixed climbing which can be really fun. For peaks above 6500m, the climbers will need a climbing permit. The climbers will also need a specific visa for the purpose which can only be facilitated by a licensed tour operator from Pakistan.

Peaks below 6500m
For this category, the chosen peak should be in the โOpen Areasโ category which does not need trekking/climbing permits etc or even NOC. For peaks in the restricted areas need trekking/climbing permit and established procedure must be adopted to get such a permit. PE provides all necessary approvals/permits and NOCs for climbing and trekking anywhere in Pakistan. Depending upon the chosen peak, we can further facilitate the expedition in regards to the requirements of climbing it.

Climbing above 6500m
For peaks above 6500m, the climbers and expeditions need a climbing permit and have to fulfill all the necessary paperwork before proceeding to the peak. This requires facilitation from a registered tour operator in Pakistan which takes care of the whole logistics of the expedition. Minimum processing time for a Climbing/Trekking permit is 30 days but it is advised to submit an application at least 45days in advance.
Climbing/Trekking Permit Requirements
After receipts of all clearances from concerned departments, Department of Tourism Gilgit Baltistan issues permits after completion of following formalities by the concerned tour operator:
- Deposing of prescribed royalty / environment fee
- Application to issue permit
- Mountaineering expedition members insurance/undertaking by tour operator assuring rescue operation funds
- Tourist guide / Liaison Officer insurance and porter & insurance
